Whenever you visit our office, we’ll check your mouth to see if you have gum disease. To determine whether you may have gum disease, Dr. Greg Fertik can do a few different things. They will first evaluate your medical history and see if there are factors (such as smoking) that could have probably contributed to the growth of gum disease. They can also examine your oral cavity for signs of tartar buildup, bacterial sacks on the gums and swollen or bloody gums, and they may also measure the space between your pearly whites. Finally, Dr. Greg Fertik may suggest X-rays in some cases to inspect bone loss.

Combatting periodontal disease is important for many reasons. Firstly, gum disease can eat away at your chompers, gums and bones. An oral cavity with periodontal disease is not a healthy oral cavity.
